"Last Best Place" Trademarks
I see the hoorah over the Last Best Place trademark is still not over.
n
nTwo

Useless Debate
I was hoping for a little more debate on the school funding issue. Looks to me like its more just a throw money at the issue and forget it. If that's all they were going to do why didn't they do it during the regular session instead of waiting till now? I'll never understand…

Thoughts for Conrad Burns
Sen. Conrad Burns must have not learned an important lesson of childhood. If you don't want to get caught with the cookies, don't put your hand in the cookie jar.
n
nThe greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes. Horace

School Funding
Here is some figures I gleaned from the Gazette article on the Governor's plan for school funding.
n
nGovernor's plan not a permanent fix, superintendent says
n
n___________$/student_____$/student____%
n_______________before_______after_____increase
nBillings________$5064________$5468______7.4
nMissoula_______$7863________$8272______4.9
nHelena________$7800________$8183______4.7
nLodge Grass____$13,333______$13,873_____3.9
nFrenchtown_____$6855________$7242______5.3
nAugusta_______$8461________$8913______5
nCanyon Creek___$7333_______$8073_______9.2
n
nTo start with I know there will be a lot of screaming and shouting out…

Bad Guy

"This Abramoff guy is a bad guy," Burns told KAJ television in Kalispell. "And he's indicted, and I hope he goes to jail and we never see him again. I wish he'd never been born to be right honest with you. Because he's done a terrible, terrible thing to our Native American community."

n
nIs…

Sense
Charles S. Johnson has some interesting thoughts on a special session that looks like is going to happen. The best among them are:
n
n
# There is nothing special about special sessions.
n
n# Everybody loses in a special session.
n
n# One special session begets another.

n
nEverybody loses for sure, just watch…

Stupid Ideas
First the Governor has a mind dump on what to do with the excess monies the State seems to have and now a Republican is having just as big of brain fart as the Governor.
n
n
House Republican leader Roy Brown said the state has a projected surplus in excess of $300 million…

Incentives
DirecTV to open call center in Missoula
n
nJust on the surface this looks like a pretty good deal but dig down into the stroy and you begin to wonder.
n
n
In all, DirecTV was offered about $18 million in incentives, including a $9.2 million loan from the Montana Board of Investments to Missoula…
