Common Sense
OK, what would I comment on this morning? If you know me it's real obvious.<br />n<br />n<a title="Mad cow test scares U.S. beef industry " href="http://www.billingsgazette.com//index.php?id=1&display=rednews/2004/11/19/build/nation/25-mad-cow.inc" target="_blank">Mad cow test scares U.S. beef industry</a><br />n<br />nTo start with I think "scare" is an awful strong term to use. Concerns or uneasy would probably be better descriptions…

Whew!!
Dodged a bullet this <a href="http://www.billingsgazette.com//index.php?id=1&display=rednews/2004/07/01/build/nation/45-mad-cow.inc">time</a>. I was hoping this was the deal when I first heard about it, but am glad to see it turned out this way. EAT BEEF!!<br />n<br />n<b>It is easy to dodge a spear in the daylight, but it is difficult to avoid an arrow in the dark. Chinese proverb</b>

Support
I have said it once and I will say it again. The <a href="http://www.beef.org/"><acronym title="National Cattlemans Beef Association, shills for the big meat packers">NCBA</acronym></a> does not support the everyday cattleman like they claim to. <a href="http://www.billingsgazette.com//index.php?id=1&display=rednews/2004/04/20/build/nation/70-cattle-testing.inc">They are in the pocket of the big meatpackers</a> and so push whatever policy issue the big three meatpackers want.…

BSE Testing
As usual, here is something in the news that makes no sense to me. <a href="http://www.cidrap.umn.edu/cidrap/content/hot/bse/news/apr0904bse.html"><acronym title="United States Department of Agriculture, Bought and Paid for by The Big Meat Packers">USDA</acronym> won't let firm test its cattle for <acronym title="Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy">BSE</acronym></a>. A private company wants to set up its own lab and do a rapid…

Consumer Confidence High
I know, I talk about <acronym title="Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy">BSE</acronym> fairly often and you are probably tired of hearing it but I found this interesting. <a href="http://www.cooknjaes.rutgers.edu/news/release.asp?n=221">Mad Cow has Confidence Stirred, but not Shaken. Any Drop in Beef Consumption Likely to be Short Lived.</a> I was always afraid of a knee jerk reaction by people to…

Money for BSE
I see the President's budget is coming out with money for <acronym title="Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy">BSE</acronym> efforts. $60 million dollars total. That's a lot of money in my book. A little over half that money will go towards establishing a National ID system for cattle. I will tell you right now, not one dime of that…

Mouthing
Some new rules past down by the Agriculture Department are going to require <a href="http://www.billingsgazette.com//index.php?id=1&display=rednews/2004/01/25/build/state/40-mouthing.inc">cattle to be mouthed for age.</a> This is the first I have heard of this. I have to agree that it is not the best way in the world to do things, but it will have to do for now. I…

Beef Exports
Wow! <a href="http://www.billingsgazette.com//index.php?id=1&display=rednews/2004/01/24/build/business/70-poland-beef.inc">Poland resumes imports of U.S. beef.</a> How exciting!!! $200,000 worth of exports for the cattle industry in 2002. This will make a big difference for our export markets.<br />n<br />n<b>To know the road ahead, ask those coming back. Chinese Proverb</b>

Double Standards
This editorial from the <a href="http://www.montanaforum.com/rednews/2004/01/19/build/ag/export-oped.php?nnn%20=%202">Missoulian </a>hits the nail on the head. It points out the double standard that the beef industry wants to work under. They want to ban beef from countries that have <acronym title="Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy">BSE</acronym> from coming into the U.S. but want our trading partners to take our beef because we…

Blame Game
I read an article today that blamed the <acronym title="United States Department of Agriculture, Bought and Paid for by The Big Meat Packers">USDA</acronym> for the whole <acronym title="Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy">BSE</acronym> mess the cattle industry is in. Unfortunately the publication I read it in is not available on line so I am unable to link it…
