This editorial from the <a href="http://www.montanaforum.com/rednews/2004/01/19/build/ag/export-oped.php?nnn%20=%202">Missoulian </a>hits the nail on the head. It points out the double standard that the beef industry wants to work under. They want to ban beef from countries that have <acronym title="Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy">BSE</acronym> from coming into the U.S. but want our trading partners to take our beef because we say it is safe. Well just saying it is safe is not going to do it and the beef industry needs to deal with this fact.<br />n<!–more–><br />nTo regain consumer confidence in foreign countries it is going to take a large effort on our part and trying to skimp and save is just not going to cut it. <a href="http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040119/bs_afp/japan_us_madcow_040119085950">Japan has said as much</a> so we need to bite the bullet and test all cattle. There is quite a few quick test kits out there for <acronym title="Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy">BSE</acronym> and other countries find them adequate for use.
