I have always thought we had a very litigious society in the US but I think Canadian cattlemen are topping us. First they sue the US for the border closing due to BSE and now they are suing their own government over the handling of the BSE situation. The story provides an interesting perspective on how BSE was spread in Canada. They had a bunch of cattle from England in the country and some of them were allegedly ground up into cattle feed after the feed ban was put in place.
n
n
The statement of claim says that in 1996, Ridley's Australian parent company agreed to stop using cattle meat and bone meal in that country's cattle feed. However, it says the company recklessly continued using the material in its Canadian products because it was cheaper than using soybeans.
n
n"Ridley knew the risks they were taking," Mr. Pallett said. "Ridley figured they could get away with it here, and hopefully, they will be proven wrong."

n
nExactly the issue that has certain people, including me, in the US concerned about Canadian cattle.
n
nWhen men exercise their reason coolly and freely on a variety of distinct questions, they inevitably fall into different opinions on some of them. When they are governed by a common passion, their opinions, if they are to be called, will be the same. Alexander Hamilton
