I can't believe how good calving is going on the cows. I thought they were going to calve slow but there are calves all over the place and they must be about 75% done. I have never seen anything like it, they don't seem very heavy one day then all of a sudden in a couple of days they look heavy and calve.
n
nThe weather has been good for calving so it's great. We had to get a few in and doctor yesterday so I took the camera along but guess what. There was a big smudge on the lens so none of the pictures turned out. I was a little concerned that I might have broke it when the horse almost fell on me but the camera and I both survived. I was galloping around some cows when the horse tripped and we went end over end. It has been a while since I was in a wreck like that but everything turned out okay except for a few sore spots. I should add the horse is fine too.
n
nThe green grass is starting to grow good and hopefully in a couple of weeks I can turn the cows out to the hills and quit feeding them. It is wetter now than it was last year so it is looking fairly good to get some grass growing. Last year we didn't get any grass until June and then it wasn't much so hopefully with the earlier start this year we will have a little better grass crop.
n
nIf we could just get rid of this wind it would be just about perfect, but the wind just keeps blowing every day. Doesn't it figure, get a little moisture in the ground and the wind comes along and blows like mad until it gets all the moisture sucked up. That's the way things go I guess. Little chance of more moisture later in the week. Hope we get it. Might get some pictures in a few days too.
n
nWell, spring sprang. We've had our state of grace and our little gift of sanctioned madness, courtesy of Mother Nature. Thanks, Gaia. Much obliged. I guess it's time to get back to that daily routine of living we like to call normal. David Assael
