Signs

I can always tell a lot about the winter by the antelope in the country. When they disappear in the fall to go down towards the river country you know snow is on the way. When you start seeing them in the spring that means there is no snow on the ground and the likelihood of any more snow is remote. I noticed a few days ago the antelope were back so no more snow is what that sign tells me. It doesn't preclude rain (pray, pray, pray) so I will hope for some of that.
n
nI even got a decent series of pictures of an antelope running in front of me yesterday. While the antelope might not be a good sign, I like the pictures.
n
nTo understand
nThe signs that stars compose, we need depend
nOnly on stars that are entirely there
nAnd the apparent space between them. There
nNever need be lines between them, puzzling
nOur sense of what is what.
n
nJohn Hollander
