Pressure grows to lift U.S. beef ban
n
n
Calls from government officials to resume beef imports from the United States have been growing as Tokyo and Washington are set to hold negotiations on the issue later this month, with many officials advocating an end to the ban even before the safety of U.S. meat processing facilities is confirmed.
n
nU.S. officials have been pressing Japan to lift the ban on beef imports, which was reimposed in January after imported U.S. beef was found with body parts designated as risk materials for mad cow disease.
n
nSome government officials are advocating import resumptions in stages, starting with products processed at facilities confirmed safe by Japanese inspectors, according to sources.
n
nBut officials are divided over when imports should be resumed because of pressure from two sides–the U.S. government, which wants an early resumption, and Japanese consumers concerned over safety.

n
nI am getting tired of this contiuing saga. It's getting real old now. I will belive Japan's market is open when I see it. The only true statement I see in the whole article is this one:
n
n
"It's consumers who'll decide whether to buy U.S. beef after import resumptions,"

n
nThat is the honest truth. The consumer will decide. The only question I have for the Japanese consumer is, if US beef is so unsafe why do Americans keep eating it? I can answer that question, because they know it is safe no matter what activist keep trying to tell them.
n
nI am tired. My arm aches. My head boils. My feet are cold.
