It's not hard right now but it will sure be nice when the new hired hand gets here.
n
n

n
nThe calves got themselves in an all to familiar pickle. They cross the creek the day before and then come morning and there is a little ice on the creek they are scared to cross it. They eventually decide they are hungry enough to cross it but it's kind of funny watching them. Right now the ice isn't getting thick enough to hold them so it's not too bad, once it gets thick enough to hold them they will really not want to cross it.
n
n

n
nAfter getting done with the calves I went over and caked the yearlings. My Darling Wife always calls them the Maternity Ward starting about now since these are the bunch, two year olds, I will bring home to calve special. That's why I have started to cake them a little. They are in their last trimester of pregnancy and need a little extra nutrition now.
n
n

n
nAnd finally, the guilt got to me. These cows have been hanging on the fence and in the corner for 5 straight days wanting to come home. They were really making me feel guilty that they were still in the hills so I broke down and opened the gates so they could come "home" to where I winter them. Every year it seems like they mange to make me feel guilty about not letting them come home. I don't know what the advantage is for them, it will be a couple of weeks before I start giving them any extra feed but whatever. I have plenty of grass in the winter pasture. They can come home.
n
nJust another day on the ranch.
n
nEvery other artist begins with a blank canvas, a piece of paper the photographer begins with the finished product.
