Another Try at COOL

Somebody's thinking. If we can't get <acronym title="Country of Origin Labeling">COOL</acronym> going let's take the <a href="http://www.billingsgazette.com//index.php?tl=1&display=rednews/2005/11/16/build/nation/49-beef.inc"><acronym title="United States Department of Agriculture, Bought and Paid for by The Big Meat Packers">USDA</acronym> label off foreign meats</a>.<br />n<br />n<blockquote>Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., introduced legislation Wednesday that would prohibit labels such as "<acronym title="United States Department of Agriculture, Bought and Paid for by The Big Meat Packers">USDA</acronym> prime" or "<acronym title="United States Department of Agriculture, Bought and Paid for by The Big Meat Packers">USDA</acronym> choice" on packages of imported beef and lamb. The bill, which is co-sponsored by North Dakota Democrats Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan, would prevent the Agricultural Marketing Service from grading those meats.</blockquote><br />n<br />nIn a way it's a backdoor attempt at Country of Origin Labeling (<acronym title="Country of Origin Labeling">COOL</acronym>) since most consumers think the <acronym title="United States Department of Agriculture, Bought and Paid for by The Big Meat Packers">USDA</acronym> label on meat means it's a product of the US. IT'S NOT, but that's what they think.<br />n<br />nOf course, the meat packers and Texas Feeders will kill this proposal but it's worth a try. Probable should write Burns and Baucaus about supporting this measure. They don't listen anyway, so why bother. Any time I write them I never hear back.<br />n<br />n<b>If it's a good idea, go ahead and do it. It's much easier to apologize than it is to get permission. Grace Murray Hopper</b>
