The total size of the recall, 143 million pounds worth of beef and beef products, is the largest in U.S. history.
n
nUSDA Under Secretary for Food Safety Dr. Richard Raymond and other top USDA officials briefed reporters on the recall Sunday afternoon. Raymond confirmed the historic nature of the Hallmark/Westland beef recall.
n
n"This is the largest beef recall in the history of the United States, unfortunately," Raymond lamented. "And all beef products – raw, fresh frozen – were all recalled."

n
nOne little problem here, most of the meat recalled has all ready been eaten so while it might be the largest recall ever, I doubt they will get much of the meat back, unless they want it back used which I doubt.
n
nI understand why they did this but it is kind of a futile gesture. How much of this meat is going to be laying around from 2 year ago? The meat packing company is going to get what it deserves from this situation. They fostered an attitude that allowed this.
n
nIn times like these, it helps to recall that there have always been times like these. Paul Harvey
n
