Very Late

I have heard the saying, "better late than never," but this one is beyond late.
n
nMake plans for fall calf marketing
n
n
Thursday, October 12, 2006 8:57 AM PDT
n
n
nLivestock Marketing Economist
n
nCow-calf producers should start making plans for marketing calves, even though the actual sales date may be weeks or even months away.
n
nCalf prices at livestock auction markets in the northern Plains were averaging very near last year's levels in mid-September.
n
nMany 550- to 600-pound steers were selling between $120 and $130 per hundredweight (cwt) and premium-quality calves were bringing even more.

n
nAn article dated 12 OCT on "making plans" for the fall marketing of calves.
n
nEXCUSE ME!!!!!!!!!
n
nNow I might wean a little early, but by this point in time a rancher should have his marketing plans finalized, not just making them. I explained the other day my reasons for this. If a producer cares about how much they make per cow, they wean early. If they only care about weaning the heaviest calves they wean later.
n
nI guess this observation explains which producer this article is aimed at. The ones that think the bottom line comes from calf weights. They will learn someday I hope.
n
nHow did it get so late so soon? Its night before its afternoon. December is here before its June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?
nTheodor Geisel
