Afghan convert may be unfit for trial
n
n
An Afghan man facing a possible death penalty for converting from Islam to Christianity may be mentally unfit to stand trial, a state prosecutor said Wednesday amid growing international condemnation of the case.
n
nAbdul Rahman, 41, has been charged with rejecting Islam, a crime under this country's Islamic laws. His trial started last week and he confessed to becoming a Christian 16 years ago. If convicted, he could be executed.
n
n"We think he could be mad. He is not a normal person. He doesn't talk like a normal person," prosecutor Sarinwal Zamari told The Associated Press.

n
nI find this interesting. We go turn Afghanistan over to an elected government and this government feels it is necessary to execute a man who converts to Christianity. There ain't no freedom here that is for sure. Then the government of Afghanistan to try to dig itself out of this public relations hole it's building decides to call the man crazy. So, to convert from Islam to Christianity the man has to be crazy? Boy, don't we think highly of ourselves.
n
nIt
