This is a Holiday?

Last year I posted my annual rant about Valentines Day being a fake, made-up holiday and how stupid I thought it was. It was amazing the number of people that took this personally. I lost over 90% of my readers over over my rant and I am just finally getting back up to the numbers I had last year. So, if I was smart I would leave well enough alone and not say anything, right?
n
nWell, I am not the sharpest pencil in the box so I have to say something.
n
nValentines day is a made-up holiday that has no useful function in the real world.
n
nThere I said it. Get mad at me, rant and rave but it's the truth. I love My Darling Wife 365 days a year, so what makes this one day so important that I have to bend over backwards to show that I love her? Can't I show her all year long that she is special and not just wait and do it one time a year?
n
nI mean really, I could give her dead flowers (roses) that someone has decreed to be romantic but I think giving dead flowers to symbolize a forever blooming and growing love sends exactly the wrong message. Sounds like you're wanting the love to die just like the flowers.
n
nThere is the ever popular chocolates to give her. What women do you know that is not on a diet and complaining about her figure. So, I should give her chocolates and send the message I want her to gain weight? Do I really look that stupid?
n
nThe other popular gift idea for this made up holiday is lingerie. Let's get serious, is sexy lingerie for her, or for the man giving it? I know the answer to that one and it's real obvious. Giving sexy underwear sends the message that the person you are giving It to is nothing more than a toy to be used at your pleasure. Don't get me wrong, might be fun for all parties involved but still the message seems demeaning to me.
n
nSociety puts way to much pressure on the male of the species over this one meaningless day. Why is that? Why isn't it the women's responsibility to do something special on this made up day? Why is all the pressure on the man? If it's so special to women they should take care of the situation, not get mad at the man because he didn't do what they wanted.
n
nI will again reiterate, I LOVE MY DARLING WIFE 365 DAYS A YEAR, why do I have to worry about one made-up holiday. Simple, I don't worry. I just rant about the stupidity of it.
n
nOne last thing, last year on my rant about this My Darling Wife got attacked for loving and caring for such a creep as me. I will not put up with that this year. All comments will be moderated to this post and any attacks on My Darling Wife will be deleted and the offending party banned from my site forever. I hope that is clear enough. Attack me all you want for talking a little sense, but leave My Darling Wife out of it.
n
nOh, if it be to choose and call thee mine, love, thou art every day my Valentine! Thomas Hood
nDamn keyboard can't spell. It's world and not word where I state "Valentines day is a made-up holiday that has no useful function in the real word." I've corrected it but thanks to Aaron for posting the quote which drew my attention to the error.
