Premium Beef

Now I find <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/06/AR2005050601345.html" target="_new">this idea</a> out of South Dakota interesting. Make a premium beef product, from calf to slaughter, and market it via the state name. I don't particularly like the Government doing such a thing, a co-op might be a better idea, but the basic plan is interesting.<br />n<br />nMontana would have one problem with such an idea. While we raise a lot of beef and could feed a decent number, I don't think we have as big of slaughter capacity as South Dakota. The Montana name has a certain mystique so the marketability would be a little better but the slaughter capacity would have to go up in the state.
