Selling Calves

Talked to a cattle buyer who contacted me about selling my calves. It is early for me to sell calves so I didn't act real interested and was loathe to set a price. He offered me $1.25/lb. for our calves.
n
nI laughed in his face, I told him I wouldn't take a penny less than $1.60/lb at the present time. He told me that bankers are pressuring guys to sell calves and that's the price the calves are going at. I told him the banker was not worried about me selling calves and stayed out of our business. Then he said when the Canadian border opened in June prices were going to plummet and we better take the price while the time is right.
n
nI again laughed at him and told him he needs to wake up and smell the cow shit. If the Canadian border opens there will be a large number of fats ready to come down but that it will not make a lot of difference on the number of feeder calves available for next years market and I sell feeders and not fats. We left it like that and see what happens.
n
nEven if the border opens I think prices will be above what he is offering. We will just have to see who blinks first.
n
nI've been waiting all my life to fuck up like this. Judith Rascoe
