Over at Hit and Run I found this report out of South Carolina that just stunned me.
n
n
Yesterday, the South Carolina House Judiciary Committee voted to elevate cockfighting from a misdemeanor to a felony. The committee then killed an unrelated, poorly-timed bill that would have done the same for domestic abuse.

n
nI find this totally unbelievable. Let me get this straight, under proposed South Carolina law, if My Darling Wife were to beat me senseless this would only be considered a misdemeanor but if she takes one of her chickens to a cockfight she would be guilty of a felony. So, we value the chickens life over a humans? This just doesn't seem right to me.
n
nAnother point above and beyond that, if after thumping me, a misdemeanor offense, My Darling Wife were to go over to the neighbors and thump on him, she would be guilty of a felony assault instead of just a misdemeanor. Why isn't assault the same whether it is against ones partner or against a stranger? This has never made any sense to me.
n
nNonsense is socially OK, but not stupidity. Mason Cooley
