Wheat

I sometimes wonder if the <a href="http://www.billingsgazette.com//index.php" target="_new">Billings Gazette</a> tries to time their stories so that they run on the same day. I was struck by this fact when I read the article about <a href="http://www.billingsgazette.com//index.php?id=1&display=rednews/2005/02/06/build/state/50-seed-liability.inc" target="_new">wheat seed liability</a> and organic farming in the state section and then down in the business section there is a story about the profitablity of <a href="http://www.billingsgazette.com//index.php?id=1&display=rednews/2005/02/06/build/business/53-organic-wheat-farming.inc" target="_new">organic wheat farming</a>. Like I say it really makes you wonder about if they integrate these stories somehow.<br />n<br />nWe used to raise wheat on the ranch but we don't anymore. It couldn't be done on a large enough scale to be profitable and the transportation costs to market got so high when the local elevator changed hands, we had to start paying to ship it all the way to Billings even though it was delivered to the local elevator, that it just wasn't worth it any more. When we did it though it was an organic style program we were running. It just wasn't worth anything extra at the time.
