So it turns out that a cow born with Canada's latest BSE victim was sent to slaughter in the US a few years ago. Is this a surprise? Not to me. Did it have BSE? Hard to tell but I doubt it. Hey, I have to think positive. One thing really worries me about opening the border to Canadian cattle again.
n
n
U.S. Senators Conrad Burns of Montana and Kent Conrad of North Dakota, along with Representative Henry Waxman, of California, urged the Agriculture Department to delay its decision about opening the border to Canadian cattle, citing alleged lax enforcement of the feed ban. Conrad and Waxman are Democrats; Burns is a Republican.
n
nIn a letter to Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns, who has been nominated as U.S. Agriculture Secretary, Conrad and Waxman said Food and Drug Administration inspectors have found animal protein in cattle feed, which could spread BSE.
n
nThe lawmakers said there was “major non-compliance'' with Canadian feed rules by seven Canadian mills, citing FDA documents.

n
nUntil there is better compliance with the feed rules in Canada we should put a big WHOA on the whole thing. Some Congress Critters are looking into this. Good for them.
n
nAn uprising would punish only the country, and that is out of the question. But there is yet another approach, the most effective form of resistance: contemptuous compliance. Franz Grillparzer
