Confusion

I just don't get it. I'm probable going to get people jumping in the middle of me, but I just don't get this Veterans Day thing. Don't get me wrong, I thank everyone who appreciated my military service and thanked me today, but why do we have this day? I've heard/read that we need to honor those who put thier lives on the line to keep our country free and I've been there, done that, but I definetly don't need a special day to honor me for it. I did my job, did what I felt was right and would do it again for my family, friends and country.
n
nI'm sorry, if you want to honor a class of people who have served thier country in an important capacity try honoring most , sorry I can't say all, teachers. Teaching our children to grow up into intelligent, resonable adults is the most honorable profession I can see.
n
nWhile I'm on my rant about Veterans Day the worst thing I seen today is the post I read from a veteran about how people don't do enough to honor him and other vets on this day. He felt that people going about thier normal daily routine was an insult to veterans who have served this country. He also talked about what the country owed him for his service. Owed him? I don't get it, my country doesn't owe me anything for my service, it is something I was privleged to do. I never really figured out what he wanted, people to bow down on thier knees and kiss his boots for his service? I might not understand this day but to be the person honored and then whine about it falls in the realm of science fiction to me and makes the man seem very little.
n
nConfusion is a word we have invented for an order which is not understood.
