It's one of those odd things. Cattle prices are fairly good and you don't have the grass to raise any due to the weather. Like the article states, that the prices are as high as they are with the BSE scare we had is simply amazing. This fits right in with the cattle I sold earlier this week. I was pleasantly surprised with what they brought. Hopefully I will get some rain pretty soon so I don't have to sell any more. Just in case though I all ready have the next bunch to go down the road decided on if I need to.
n<!–more–>
nThe article talks about rumors that the government might be going to open the border to Canadian cattle again. There are a lot of cattle groups in the US that are opposed to this. I'll be truthful here. I wouldn't mind the border staying closed to keep the price of cattle high. The groups that are lobbing against it are using the excuse that Canada hasn't done enough to address the BSE situation in their country. This is a crock of bulls–t. It is one of the most hypocritical things I have heard. If they were to tell the truth the reason they wish to keep the border closed is the same as mine, to keep cattle prices up. They are just trying to phrase it as a health and safety issue to give it more standing in the consumer mind.
n
nThe solution to all the problems is to implement testing to open up our export markets to get the beef flowing overseas again. Then it wouldn't affect our market as much if Canadian cattle came into our market. No matter what, the government is going to take action to reduce the price of beef since cheap food equals happy voters and the election of the rich and powerful of either party is all that matters to them.
n
nTruth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't.
