I don't know about anybody else, but I have been getting a lot of strange e-mails lately, not spam, and I delete them immediately since I suspect they are a worm or virus coming to affect my computer. Now I read this story that says experts are worried that a systematic attack might be coming and they suspect organized crime may be involved. Now normally you can spot an e-mail worm or virus because it comes as an attachment and if you just take care not to open every attachment you get, you can avoid getting affected. Now there is a new worm out there that doesn't come as an attachment. You just look at it to read it and it infects your Windows computer. For this worm to work you have to be using a Windows computer and be using Outlook.
n<!–more–>
nIf there is ever a reason to dump Internet Explorer and Outlook Express this is it. These programs are laden with such security problems it isn't even funny. I personally dumped them 6 months ago and as a added security measure I am now running Linux computer to reduce my vulnerability to worms and viruses. I have never been infected by one and I don't plan on starting any time soon. There is a critical update for windows that will patch the vulnerabilities exploited by the newest set of worms but a better way is to get a different e-mail client if you are using a Microsoft product. It is the easiest security measure you can take to protect your computer and to protect yourself.
n
nI think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image. Stephen W. Hawking
