Hunting

I can't decide if this is good or bad. In West Virginia there is now going to be a college course on hunting. I keep reading articles about stupid college courses and this might be considered one of them but it also shows to me how removed the urban population of the US is from its rural roots. Here in Montana and other areas of the rural west you wouldn't have to have a college course on hunting.
n<!–more–>
nFor the most part, even non-hunters like me understand the importance of managing game populations through hunting. I know sombody is going to say that is what the wolf is supposed to do, not humans. Well I think that even the wolves will need managed through hunting along with other game animals since the other animals have lost some of their natural defense mechanisms against such a large predator due to past actions of humans. We can't turn the clock back so we have to deal with the situation as it is and hunting is a viable, proven method of doing it. Maybe a college course on hunting will start teaching our urban cousins the importance of hunting instead of the popular view they have of it as wanton slaughter by gun nuts.
n
nEducation must, then, be not only a transmission of culture but also a provider of alternative views of the world and a strengthener of the will to explore them.
